Where To Next? How We Choose Our Next Escape

There are 7 long weekends during the year (not including New Year’s and Christmas) and the first thing we did during our 2017 goal planning meeting was to mark those dates off in our calendar. We try to take advantage of every long weekend. It works out perfectly because we can escape the hustle and bustle of city living without needing to take time off of work (or maybe just one day off, depending on how far we’re going). We found that just knowing a trip is coming up helps us to stay focussed at work and it makes the 12 hour workdays worthwhile.

So where do we go? We start by staring at a map of Canada and hoping the answer will jump out at us. The next natural step is to check Expedia.ca and look for places in Anguilla, Bahamas, Turks and Caicos…because…you know…we’re Beyonce and Jay Z. 30 minutes and 8 islands (& some of Europe) later, we go back to the map of Canada and just pick a spot.

Next we decide what kind of trip we want. Do we want something adventurous? Relaxing? Or do we want a small place on a lake in the middle of the bush? It’s a tiny bit difficult to tell how we would feel on May 24th when today is March 1st, but we try.

After exhausting travel websites, googling “things to do in wherever” and looking at reviews, we decide on a place and book it! The process might take an hour or a week but when it’s done, it’s one of the best feelings ever. Another vacation to work toward. Another city or town to explore. Another adventure for the books.
